The K-Factor Compromise: How well do K-Factors predict individual deliveries?
Feb 6 @ 12:15 pm – 1:00 pm

Just because something has been around for a while doesn’t mean that it’s the best thing. This presentation will look into actual K’s, actual weather, actual consumption – and will explain why most of you are actually doing very well based upon the technology and methods that you currently employ.  We will also look at whether the current methodology is going to serve you well in the future (Spoiler alert: It won’t)!

Session Outline

Just because something has been around for a while doesn’t mean that it’s the best thing.  There is little argument that the biggest single expense to operate a heating oil business is the cost of delivering fuel. There is also little argument that if you could make fewer deliveries, you would be more profitable. There has always been talk about moving towards more efficient deliveries.  Updating K’s, reviewing accounts, and the like – all to see whether you can move average delivery sizes up 10, 15 or even 20 gallons – without the risk of seeing increases in the number of runouts.

This presentation will look into actual K’s, actual weather, actual consumption – and will explain why most of you are actually doing very well based upon the technology and methods that you currently employ.  We will also look at whether the current methodology is going to serve you well in the future (Spoiler alert: It won’t)!

What’s my Business Worth? Valuing a Retail Energy Business
Feb 20 @ 12:15 pm – 1:00 pm

We can go on-line and find out what almost everything we own is worth from our house to our furniture.  One exception is the value of our largest asset, our business.

The purpose of the presentation is to show various methods of how retail fuel companies are valued.  Understanding that a stock gifting value has a different value than a fair market sale value can save family businesses hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxes.  The same is true for C-Corp to S-Corp conversions.  In addition, a properly done cash flow valuation will give owners insights as to how to improve their businesses and create useful budgeting and measurement metrics to assist in process improvements.

Valuations are a key tool to better understanding a business and they can be used by marketers for several purposes including:

  1. Stock gifting for tax advantage succession planning
  2. Acquisitions to expand and grow
  3. Buy-sell agreements among partners
  4. Banking purposes to fund expansion and growth projects
  5. Conversion from C-Corp to S-Corp
  6. Forming employee stock ownership plans
  7. Budgeting and planning to improve processes
  8. Personal goodwill calculations

You might wonder why this webinar is so detailed, the reason . . . Sandy Lamb, Focal Point Coaching, so kindly reached out to us about a future speaking engagement.  I invited her to do a webinar for our group so that we could see and hear her talent firsthand.  Thank you Sandy!  To register for this webinar, click here.

About her presentation

24 hours in a day, 7 days in a week and once it’s gone, you can’t get it back.  You aren’t going to FIND the time to pursue your goals, you are going to MAKE the time to pursue them.  Instead of asking yourself do you have enough time, ask how are you spending the time that you have?  Time management is really life management, management of yourself.  It is the ability to determine the sequence of events > what you do first, what you do second, and what you don’t do at all.  Please join me as I take you through an abbreviated version of my Eat that Frog! Workshop based on the Brian Tracy book by the same name. I will teach you tips and techniques to increase your productivity and get more done in less time!

Her work includes consulting in sales and marketing, finance, technical training, and operations challenges.

Ruth has been instrumental in helping business owners understand and profitably use the information generated from the financial segment of their businesses. She has a knack for helping business owners truly understand financials.

She is especially proud of one contractor she helped climb out of a big hole. He started with a negative $400,000 net worth 15 years ago and is still in business today…profitably and with a positive net worth.

After twelve years on the road, doing 200 flights per year, she knew there had to be a better way to reach business people who wanted to build their businesses and train their employees. She began training on the Internet in 1998 and began the first television like broadcasting in 2002. Channels currently include www.profitabilityrevolution.com and  www.hvacchannel.tv.

Ruth holds an MBA in Finance from Georgia State University and Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Chemical Engineering from Tufts University and the University of Pennsylvania.

She holds a Class II HVAC contractor’s license (inactive) in Georgia.

Ruth is passionate about helping adults learn to read, photography, and marathon races.  She helped start an adult literacy organization in 1986 that currently serves over 1,000 adults per year and ran the Boston Marathon and 11 other marathons so far.

Ruth has written many manuals and books including the popular Operations Manuals: Best Practices for Running a Profitable Service and Replacement company.

Her latest book, The Ugly Truth about Cash, joined Stephen Covey, Napoleon Hill, Dale Carnegie and 33 other esteemed authors in the top 37 books start up businesses (and other business owners) should read. This book preceded by the #1 Best Selling Book, The Courage to be Profitable and two other award winning books, The Ugly Truth about Small Business and The Ugly Truth about Managing People.

She contributes a monthly financial column to HVACR Business as well as columns in Reeves Journal, Today’s AC, and many other regional publications. Ruth is part of Jim Blasingame’s Small Business Advocate brain trusts and appears frequently on his national radio program.  She has also been interviewed by the Wall Street Journal Radio Network, the Big Biz Show, and many regional and local radio programs.

Ruth has spoken for national and state association meetings, national and local trade shows, manufacturers, distributors, and others in 49 of 50 states. (She is looking for a reason to go to North Dakota). Ruth is a down to earth, thought provoking speaker who provides audiences with ideas that will inspire them and help them earn more profits.
