Overview

This position will be located at our EW Brown Generating Station.  This position provides boiler, pressure vessel and power piping mechanical engineering support to operations and maintenance on a routine basis. Develops plans, assessments, material specifications, and scopes of work to maintain equipment in accordance with industry best practices and applicable codes/regulations. Exercise of professional judgment is required in the performance of the assigned tasks.

The position will be filled based on the selected candidate’s experience level: Engineer I, II, III or Principal.

Responsibilities

Identifies opportunities to improve and/or sustain plant equipment availability and reliability.
Acts as the day-to-day mechanical engineer and as project manager, maintaining both capital and O&M funded project timelines and budgets.
Thoroughly manages assigned Capital or O&M projects that requires detailed attention to both schedule and costs.  Provides status updates for his/her projects to management and Sr budget analyst.
Evaluates inspection reports and operational data to assist plant management with the development of plant KPI goals, objectives, budgets, projects, programs, and procedures.
Records and documents maintenance, inspections, repairs and other boiler, pressure vessel and power piping related activities.
Performs engineering assignments associated with the design, construction, performance enhancement, cost effectiveness, operation, and maintenance of various plant equipment and systems.
Acts as lead/expert in the work group; train and mentor peers, operators and maintenance technicians.
Work assignments are varied and somewhat difficult.
Serves as the plant’s Certified Weld Inspector; Ensuring that all repairs/alterations are done in accordance with the applicable code, regulations and/or accepted standards.
Performs assignments in which evaluation, originality, ingenuity, decision-making, and authority.
Supports various plant operations and maintenance groups with engineering-based problem troubleshooting, identification, analysis, and resolution.
Assists other Plant Engineers with large and/or complex projects, as required.
Plans and controls all activities so as to provide an accident-free workplace and with regard to environmental regulations.
Regularly reviews assignments to assure optimum efficiency and cost effectiveness.
Performs other duties as directed by management.

Qualifications

Required Education

ABET Accredited Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to use formal engineering training in practical application to power plant assignments.

Proficient oral and written communication skills.

Experience with boiler operation, maintenance and accepted repair methodologies

Current AWS Certified Weld Inspector Certification

Experience working with an enterprise resource planning platform such as Maximo
